Kodiak Reaches Milestone In Gloucester

March 14, 2007 - Gloucester, MA

Kodiak Corporation has reached a milestone in the reconstruction of the Thatcher Road Bridge with the placing of bridge deck on March 14th. Kodiak is working an accelerated schedule through the winter season to have what was to be a three-phase, 20 month project spanning three summers complete in a nine month period from September of 2006 to May of 2007. In spite of the adverse weather conditions this last month, Kodiak has been able to remain on schedule for completion before the summer season. Thatcher Road is the access to Good Harbor Beach.

Bill Barr, President of Kodiak said, "We caught a perfect day with 50 degree weather deck placement." His personnel had been working in some cold, wind and snow to get the deck ready. The $1.75M, MassHighway project is scheduled for completion June 2007.

Lawrence Selects TEC to Assist in Returning Essex Street to Two-Way Operation

March 9, 2007 - Lawrence, MA

Twenty-five years ago as part of an Urban Systems project, the downtown City of Lawrence street system was converted to one-way couples in an attempt to increase traffic flow. Almost from inception the merchants of the downtown have been trying to return Essex Street to two ways as speeds increased and wide expanses of travel lanes hamper pedestrian movement.

TEC will work with the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission through the Office of Community Development to modify signal layout, signage and striping to return Essex Street to two way operation making it a more business friendly environment and addressing travel speed in the corridor.

The estimated $1M project will also include making changes to street lighting to obtain a unified standard of period posts and lamps currently in place in the government center area of the City.

Tom Schiavone, the City's director of Economic Development said, "a two-way Essex Street is the key component of a package of improvements to the downtown, which will include street signs and banners made in the Lawrence DPW sign shop, and street lighting improvements which will allow for illumination of decorations for special occasions.  We are glad we have the local expertise here in Lawrence in TEC to help us make this happen."

Kevin Dandrade, TEC project manager said he and his team are excited about the opportunity to deliver this important project to the downtown. "I have been impressed at the unified expression of support by the business community to return Essex Street to two-way operations. It has been fun working with the City on planning this project. We are looking forward to the change-over and a brightly lighted, active holiday season in the downtown."
